  how do i begin this... i feel like pouring my heart out about something that is bothering me.

  Welcome to the board!

  After being raised a JW, I also believed that they were the most morally upright people and "the world" was filled with those who were untrustworthy, immoral and the like. It didn't take long to realize that was just one more WT lie designed to attract and retain members in the organization. Not only does the WT not have a monopoly on morality, I believe JWs are even more likely to commit adultery. In the WT there is only one way to "break" a marriage and that is adultery. I have known JWs who commited adultery just so they could end their marriage.

  It may be an enlightening experience for you to develop friendships with people who are not JWs. I'm not talking about single women who you might get involved with. I mean people in general. As you get to know them and realize they are good people, you may develop a new confidence in future romantic possibilities.

  i've only been a witless for about 7 years or so and left al little over a year ago and i've been coming here since.

  you would think that after a year it would all be over with but i just cannot get the wt shit outta my head.

  It would be a lot easier to let go if I didn't have family still in. Maybe someday my family can get out and we can all heal. Until then, I have to live without some of them, and that's hard because I miss them.

  US Exposes it's own Troops to Toxic Waste

  this can apply to any country - but shouldn't patriotism and those that serve to protect a country, be at the very least, given the utmost in care and consideration for putting their lives on the line?

  first an occpation called a war - killing 5,000 us men and women; then we find out that a couple of those deaths were from faulty wiring and electrocution; then we find out they were paid less than the private contractors hired by the government; then we find out some of the water and food was no good; they come back and we now find 27,000 pieces of mail from vets to the veterans administration was thrown in a back room unopened and almost half of those coming back are still fighting for simple health care and benefits.

  it just doesn't seem right....sammieswife.. the pentagon allegedly endangered u.s. soldiers by implementing and covering-up dangerously toxic waste-incineration practices at balad airbase in iraq during years past, as revealed in a leaked air force memo [pdf].

  Does Coming To This Site Make You Feel Better?

  i recognized, when i first started searching the web, that there are tons of information regarding jehovah's witnesses.

  most is negative toward the religion.. coming onto jwd/jwn gives one a different perspective.

  you get to interact with those thinking about leaving, those who have already left and even some who never were in the cult but are fascinated by the experiences of those that were in the "truth".. when you are on this site, how does it affect you??

  Most of the time this site makes me feel better, like a huge relief. But sometimes I feel sad when realizing just what a tragedy the WT has become.

  I'm very glad to have the opportunity to be here. It has helped me tremendously in healing from the experience. When I first came, I had been out for many years. I still had family in, so I was curious about what was new in dubland. I knew that time was marching on and wondered how the WT was explaining Armageddon's failure to appear. What I found was much more scandal than I had thought even the WT was capable of. You couldn't have predicted that UN thing with a crystal ball! That truly falls into the "truth is stranger than fiction" category. (Or maybe the "shoulda known better than to trust a cult" category.)

  I am very thankful for this sight and for Simon who has made it all possible!

  Being a Jehovah's Witness - What did it do to your mind?

  i was raised in a non religious household that was very stable & loving.. through circumstances, i bacame a jw.. .

  during the 10 years that i had the misfortune to practice the religion, my young energetic & happy.

  mind became negative, worried & depressed.. .

  I was a pioneer for four years. I specifically remember how terribly boring it was to spend 90 hours a month (the requirement at that time) knocking on doors where 90% of the time no one was home, 9% of the time anyone who was home wished you hadn't come, and the 1% or less of people who were willing to talk to you were either lonely or trying to convert you to their religion.

  It was the incredible boredom that I remember most from that time. Studying WT publications and going to meetings was a continual rehash of the same old BS, and involved little or no real spirituality. The WT treadmill kept you plenty busy, but not with anything that provided real meaning or value. And it was a total waste of any brain cells one might have had.

  i have recently joined after spending over 12 months lurking reading posts and evaluating/digesting the truth about the truth.

  i learned all about ray franz here and after reading both of his books feel a great deal of appreciation toward the man for what i can only describe as a labour of love on his part.. .

  (romans 9:1) how, though, can we make sure that our conscience is in harmony with jehovahs holy spirit?

  Woo whooo!

  kinda crazy, but finally being able to get on here almost makes me feel like i have just been released from prison.

  i have had the privledge of doing nothing but read so many of your posts(for a solid 7 months i bet)...and i really wanted to say thank you, to the ones here who wear your hearts on your sleeves.. first off, i would like to thank the warden for making all of this possible (kidding simon...thanks for keeping this board going).

  secondly, every single one of you regular posters here have been a great source of encouragment...looking at the many posts you have have contributed to the site really shows what dedication actually means.

  Have you tried volunteer work since leaving the dubs?

  i have been feeling urges to try some volunteer work, to do something with my time to help those less privileged than me.

  since i left the jw's, which was quite a few years ago (faded), i've always felt something missing in terms of mingling with a group of people and doing something of a volunteer/charitable nature for others (that's not to say jws do anything charitable really, although some people have been helped to clean up their lives through joining their religion).

  i think it would be tremendously fulfilling to try some volunteer work to fill the vacuum of wanting to do kind things for others, something altruistic.

  I have done volunteer work with a number of different groups over the years and found it very worthwhile. I recommend trying a few and seeing what fits. Previous posters have mentioned many good organizations and opportunities. I would add Hospice to that list.

  I Get to Witness About the Witnesses......

  for those unaware, this sunday marked the 2nd week i have attended a local unitarian/universalist service.

  i have given them a try because i no longer feel that isolating myself from people is good for me.

  also, they are creed-less, dogma-less, and liberal.

  Why don't they want to know what they don't know they know??

  i did a thread a few months back about how many dubs are just like us....they don't do or believe everything the fds tell them they should.

  such as many dubs do not shun and many dont think only jw's will survive armageddon, many this college is a very good idea etc.

  but i have noticed since i went super vocal trying to enlighten my friends upon my wake-up, that not only do many, many dubs not really know actual jw teachings, but they dont even care what they are or are not!

  JWs have decided the WT is God's one true religion, and so their salvation depends on being in good standing with it. Since the beliefs change from time to time anyway, they conclude it's best not to get too attached to them. Better to focus on staying loyal to the organization.

  An elder that was once my friend used to say, "I'd rather be wrong with the Watchtower than right by myself." The particular doctrines aren't what they are attracted to. It's the idea that they have found salvation through an organization that appeals. That's why I believe the WT is like a false Christ.
